…to thank you with!

Ryan Stephens just posted his Top 10 Gen Y Blogs list for December, and I am thrilled to say that Life After College is in the number one spot! When my friend Elisa emailed to tell me the news, my heart started pounding. I looked over both shoulders, like “me? really?” and then started jumping up and down like a school girl.

I just wanted to write a quick post to say thank you SO much to all of you for sticking around, reading my blog, and for inspiring me to keep going. Special thanks to everyone who voted too.

I am humbled to be in great company.  If you haven’t already, do yourself a favor and check-out the rest of the blogs on the list – they are all worthy of the top spot. I am lucky to call many of these fellow Top 10 bloggers close friends: OwlSparks, Life Without Pants, Sydney: Unfiltered, Life’s Like a Box of Chocolates, Small Hands, Big Ideas, Ophelia’s Webb, Location 180, The Rest is Still Unwritten & Thrilling Heroics.

Finally, here is the great blurb Ryan put together for Life After College (and yes – he really did call to congratulate me “IRL“):

1.) Life After College – Jenny’s mission is to provide simple, practical tips that help you focus on the BIG picture of your life…not just the details. Find tips and resources for life, work, money, happiness, productivity, personal growth and more.

Admittedly, I’ve been anticipating Jenny’s ascension to the top for few months now. I suspect it was only a matter of time. Quickly becoming famous (in our insular world) for her nifty templates/guides, Jenny does so much more. For one, though I haven’t met her I can assure you she’s real (just read the post).

I don’t know if it’s because she gets to hang around smart people at Google all day, but sometimes it just feels like Jenny knows something I don’t (aside from what a red velvet cupcake tastes like). For about 3 seconds it makes me want to live vicariously through her until I read that I should Stop Audition for Other People’s Lives.” Told you she was smart. Like Sydney, she manages to mix in a few dating posts. But most importantly, she takes great pride in convincing the most charismatic bloggers in the world to guest post for her. (What? My fingers are tired. I deserved that plug!)

Congrats Jenny! And to everyone who made the final Top 10 Gen Y Blog List of the Year (and in this format)! I’m off to call Jenny and congratulate her, seriously.

Virtual hugs and cupcakes to all of you! Thanks again :)

I too, was proud to be amongst you and everyone else on the list (top ten or not). Everyone provides a unique perspective and value, which is why it's continually so fun to be part of and watch people grow.

    Yay! Cupcakes for all :)
  • Aw, thank you so much Grace! I love sharing the list with great bloggers
like you. Congrats to you too - now get back out to SF so we can celebrate
over a cupcake! Or hopefully I'll see you at SXSW :)

Clearly I am all kinds of excited about this. And don't worry about running out of cupcakes, we'll just go get some more when I roll into town!

  • That is so great... just goes to show that Bruins are so awesome :)
  • Aww, thanks Royce! GO BRUINS indeed!
  • Damn it. Sydney already stole my "you like it on top, don't you" joke.

Well for what it's worth, I like you on top too. Which is precisely why Ryan and I thought you should have stole the #1 spot long ago. It is well desereved, so be proud. And enjoy the ride. I hope it lasts a looong time.
  • Oh, David. What am I going to do with you? WAIT! Don't answer that. Or rather, do answer that, but maybe not on my blog? :)

BTW - I'm honored to know that you and Ryan thought of me while man-crushing on each other (I'm guessing you were taking a break from the spooning and pillow-talk?) Thanks for that :D
  • Hey I know that Elisa girl... :)

As you were jumping around your room I was jumping around mine as well. That's the beauty of social media and the "declassification" of popularity contests and social climbing. Cause girl, you TOTALLY kicked my ass (what, 7th?) but I barely noticed...I was SO excited for you! And you know why...because YOU totally kick ass! THAT'S what it should be about. :)

Do you know the first time you called me I was out with a friend and they were like "Wow, Jenny Blake calls you?" It might as well have been Obama (well, maybe not Obama...maybe Rachel Ray or some other Food Network and cupcake star) and look at it now. I couldn't shake you if I tried. And that is JUST the way I want my social media friendships to be.

    Congrats so many times over!
  • Yeah, that girl Elisa is like one of my internet soul sisters. We've never met, but she slumber parties with me and even though she's seen me on skype wearing PJs, fuzzy socks and crazy bangs, she still talks to me! An amazing woman, that one.

But really, you are the best! It meant so much to me that you were so excited for me last night. What a great friend! I laughed when you said you couldn't shake me if you tried. Does that make me a crazy cling-on? Or does that just make us BFFs? I'm gonna go with the latter :). I'm so, so happy that we've connected through blogging (another success story for the blog crush series!) - I feel very lucky to count you among my friends.
  • Congratulations! And that is a GREAT list up there!
  • Thanks so much, girl! Cheers to being fabulous - it's been so fun getting to know you through Twitter and our blogs :D
  • I knew you liked it on top.

But really, I am so pumped for you. Imagine if there were money associated with this list - YOU WOULD BE SWIMMING IN IT! I'm sure everyone below me (well, above me once this posts) here has already gushed about how amazing you are so I'll leave it at this:

    YOU ROCK MY EFFING SOCKS!

Love your face girl - mean it.

Now, Top 10 slumber party? I know David's in...
  • WOMAN!!! Love the way you brought that naughty slumber party talk back to my blog. I totally had it coming!

I rock your effing socks?! UMMMM DITTO!!! Your blog posts at Sydney: Unfiltered have been oozing with soulful brilliance. You definitely got one of my votes, and I am just loving everything you do. #GIRLMINDBLOGCRUSH!

Love you're face, love the slumber party idea. Let's DOOOOO it! Oh wait, that's what SXSW is for ;-)
  • Congrats Jenny. Truly deserved! I have you to thank for the great email convo I'm currently having with Phil the frugal movie critic.
  • Thank you so much Jenny! I love that you and Phil are emailing - knowing both of you, I'm sure the thread is a riot!
