Career

Happy, passionate, fulfilling, growth-filled. That’s what I strive for in my own career, and I’m passionate about helping others do the same.

I’ve run the gamut of career experiences: I worked at a political-polling start-up as the first employee (and saw it grow to 30+ and get acquired), I worked at Google for 5+ and saw it grow from 4,000 employees to 30,000, and I recently left Google after five and a half years at the company to pursue life as a solopreneur. During my time at Google I worked for over five years in training, coaching, career development and Authors@Google. I’m also a certified Co-Active Coach who helps people find fulfilling careers they can thrive in – no matter what form that takes.

The posts below are a sampling of my own career experiences, philosophies, and exercises to help you assess what’s next and build a kick-butt career.

One of the struggles I hear most often from new readers is that they have a gnawing feeling of bordom when they think about their future. I’m writing today from a place of deep gratitude. I was one of two keynote speakers at the first annual 20 Something Blogger Summit this past weekend in Chicago — three incredible days of ideas, connections and reunions with friends new and old. Despite my nerves about living up to keynote status (this was my [...]

THANK YOU for the outpouring of love and support last week. You helped me see without a doubt that I am making the right decision and that I won’t be alone on the road ahead. I am so incredibly blessed to have such a supportive community. Each of you continue to blow me away with [...]

Grab a cup of coffee, friends — this is an epically long post. (Update: had to change the link, so the Facebook/Tweet counts started over. Thanks to everyone who shared so far!) This post has three parts: Some jumbo news; the biggest in the history of this blog (and my life). No, I’m not pregnant. [...]

I was on the phone with my brother yesterday, and I gave him some career-related homework (the pro or the con of having a sister who’s a life coach, depending on how you see it). I asked him to write this question at the top of a piece of paper: What am I uniquely suited [...]
