What is coaching? From the International Coaching Federation: “Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential and enhance the quality of their lives. Coaches seek to elicit solutions and strategies from the client; the coach’s job is to provide support to enhance the skills, resources, and creativity that the client already has.”
My Personal Philosophy: Coaching is not about analyzing your past (that’s therapy) or telling you what to do (that’s consulting); coaching is about looking forward and finding the answers from within. You are the expert on your life. Your coach can help you become more conscious about what you want and how to get there. I am not here to tell you what to do or to “fix” you in any way, but rather to facilitate a rich conversation and ask powerful questions that can help you gain clarity in your work and life, accelerate your progress and generally give you a neutral (and strictly confidential) sounding board.
How long does the sample session last?
Sample sessions typically last 30-45 minutes.
What will we do during the sample session?
During the sample session we will get to know each other, do some light coaching (often around the Wheel of Life exercise), talk about the coaching options available to you and answer any questions you may have.
Will I be obligated to sign-up or pay for anything?
Not at all! Coaching is definitely something you have to experience to understand. If you try a sample session and aren’t ready to sign-up, don’t worry! I won’t bug you to sign-up or enroll if you’re not interested.
If I want to sign-up, with what frequency should I schedule my sessions?
Frequency – I believe coaching is more powerful if the sessions are recurring (either weekly, bi-weekly, or even every three weeks). Much of the “progress” comes in-between sessions, and it can be helpful to monitor and discuss something (particularly bigger questions or issues) over the course of several weeks rather than trying to go from A to Z in 30 minutes. That said, I’m also completely open to doing one-off sessions on an “as needed” basis, or you may want to sign-up for one session initially, then decide if a recurring format would work better for you.
