“When you get to a fork in the road, take it.” –Yogi Berra
Are you at a fork in the road? Or maybe even laid out in a ditch?
One day you’re walking merrily down a path in the forest, map in hand, direction clear as day. You’re smelling flowers, enjoying a cool breeze, laughing as butterflies land on your shoulders and maybe even brushing up against a few metaphorical unicorns and rainbows.
And then suddenly…BOOM! You get blindsided and the once-sturdy path dissolves like quicksand under your feet.
We’ve all been there: you move to a new city, graduate, end a relationship, quit a job, or just plain enter a full-blown-totally-unexplainable life crisis — and the comfort of your safe life no longer exists. Save for the most graceful among us, there is a technical term for this: it’s called getting knocked on your ass.
Getting up takes work. But it’s worth it, and it’s where true growth happens.
It’s a signal that it’s time for the evolution of a new you . . .You 2.0. Whether you like it or not, change has chosen you.
Times like these can feel incredibly isolating, sad, confusing, maddening, frustrating, and downright depressing. Life suddenly feels like it is covered by a dense fog, and you can’t make out the shapes in front of you to save your life. Worse still, you feel like you’re walking in circles, blindfolded without a compass or a way forward.
It doesn’t have to feel that way.
Design Your Life is a self-guided six-week course to help you get unstuck and build the life you really want.
We* created this course to help you lift the fog on your future and design a life that excites and — dare we say — THRILLS you! After hearing from hundreds of people who read Life After College, we realized that many were wanting to put the exercises into action in a guided, systematic way. Reading a book is one thing, but truly committing to taking action over six weeks is much more powerful.
*I’m super excited to introduce you to Emily Smith, a recent college grad who was voted “biggest dreamer” in high school and now works for Teach for America. Emily brings an unparalleled level of passion and enthusiasm to everything she touches. She reached out to do an informal interview with me several years ago, and next thing you know, we’re co-facilitating Make Sh*t Happen and partnering up to bring my book to life through this course. She is a goal-wranging, gold-dust wielding, dream-expanding, action-oriented champion of learning and doing, and I know you’ll love what we’ve put together! On that note…
What You’ll Learn: A Week-by-Week Course Overview
The six weeks of content are broken down into the following major life areas:
- Week 1: Vision & Values – Get clear on who you are and what success looks like
- Week 2: Career – Ditch the Ladder, dream, then do.
- Week 3: Money – Assess, streamline and set yourself up for long-term success
- Week 4: Home & Organization – Define and design your dream environment, both mental and physical
- Week 5: Health & Fitness – Set a strong foundation and create systems you’re excited about
- Week 6: Grab Bag! – Brainstorm ways to introduce more fun, relaxation, relationships and adventure to your life
How you’ll learn: About the Format
During each of the 6 weeks, you’ll set aside 1-2 hours to:
- Learn: through videos, audio, and reading material.
- Reflect + Plan: each week will have 1-2 coaching exercises for you to reflect on, that will move you forward in a meaningful way. Exercises are excerpted from Life After College: The Complete Guide to Getting What You Want.
- Take Action: weekly assignments to take concrete “real world” action around getting organized and making progress.
- Discuss: optional questions to reflect on weekly with your accountability partner/s (whether they are in the course or not)
- Additional Resources: lists of books, articles, courses and videos that didn’t make the cut to be in the course but that can help you extend the material even further.
- Continue: ongoing support and community through the Life After College Facebook page.
The course is facilitated through an online-learning platform called Ruzuku. You will get an email at the start of each week notifying you that the next set of content is ready. As you move through the course, you’ll check activities off that you complete, and you can return to the course any time after the six weeks are over to revisit the material.
Here’s a screenshot from the course to give you an idea of what the Ruzuku interface looks like:
The best part? If you enroll, you get a friend in free.
Why? Because we’ve signed up for plenty of courses (some upwards of $300) that swiftly fell by the wayside due to schedule overwhelm and/or shameless neglect. Sometimes you don’t ignore the material intentionally, you just don’t quite know how to engage, so you get overwhelmed and give up.
We want to help you create massive changes in your life, and know from personal experience that the most effective way to do that is by working alongside someone else (or even a whole group!), supporting, motivating, and holding each other accountable.
It’s Go Time, Baby
You ready? Time to stop spinning and start DESIGNING. Give that shiny button below some love to enroll and get instant access to the course. If you’re interested in partnering with a friend, after you enroll you will receive a welcome email with instructions on how to invite your friend for free.
100% Money Back Guarantee
We don’t want your money unless you’re getting tremendous value. We want to help you create meaningful changes in your life, and are fully committed to your success. If you are not entirely satisfied with the course at any point within the six-weeks after you purchase, your money will be refunded with no questions asked (and you can still keep the materials and course access).
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this course just for college graduates?
Absolutely not! This course is open to people of ALL ages, backgrounds, and experiences. The only requirements are that you have experienced life AND are committed to taking action on personal growth in areas such as career, money, your life, etc.
Design Your Life is a course that will answer the following questions: Who am I? What do I want? And HOW on earth do I get it?! This course was created to help you explore life’s biggest (and most practical) questions while simultaneously helping you create a plan of action on how YOU’LL actually construct living your life. It’s a fine balance between dreaming and doing, all while inspiring you to take charge of the most important areas of your life! Our goal is for you to leave this course feeling in charge and “alive”, plan already implemented in hand, so that you are able to confidently be YOU (isn’t that what life is all about, anyways?!)!
How will the course be delivered?
(From above) The course will be facilitated through an online-learning platform called Ruzuku. You will get an email at the start of each week notifying you that the next set of content is ready. As you move through the course, you’ll check activities off that you complete, and you can return to the course any time after the six weeks are over to revisit the material.
Do I have to buy the Life After College book?
No, but for only $12 it will serve as a great companion as you work through the exercises in the course. The book can serve as your ready-made journal, while also providing lots more inspirational tips, quotes and advice from others. If you’re not sure if the book is right for you, check out what 80+ people had to say in the Amazon reviews! And it’s not just for recent grads either — people in their 20s, 30s, and even 60s said they found the book to be a powerful tool for creating the life they really want.
Will it be redundant if I’ve already read the book?
There will be some overlap in content and exercises, but we’ve found lots of new goodies and resources for you too. While this course is designed around taking huge leaps of action on many of the exercises from Life After College, we provide even more in-depth material to help you explore and navigate towards designing your best life, with the added structure of specific assignments to complete each week.
How do I get my friend to enroll? What if we want to split the cost?
(they have to settle with their friend, recommend paypal’s “send money” feature)
What if I want to invite more than one friend?
We kindly ask that if you would like to invite more than one person, you have the third friend purchase the course (then they have the option of inviting a fourth…power in numbers!). We’re confident that we’ve created a course whose value will far exceed the $50 or $100 you pay for it, and are hoping that you’ll honor the work that went into it by not sharing access far and wide to those who don’t sign-up. Additionally, people are often much more committed to making changes in their lives if they have invested their own money, therefore mentally committing to making an investment in themselves.
Will there be any live interaction from Jenny and Emily?
Because this course is on-demand, it makes it challenging to schedule live events that are relevant to everyone in it (like we do with the Make Sh*t Happen program’s Q&A calls). That said, we LOVE to over-deliver and are very likely to offer bonuses to course alumni, such as private Q&A calls and access to new material that isn’t yet public on the Life After College website. We would be thrilled to interact with you on the Life After College Facebook page as you move through the course as well.

About Jenny
I’m the proud author of Life After College: The Complete Guide to Getting What You Want, which came out in March of 2011. I moved to New York, my “soul” city, in September just a few months after leaving a 5+ year stint at Googleto pursue life as a solopreneur. Those massive life changes, and interacting with my community of amazing blog readers, reminded me of how exciting AND terrifying major life changes can be.
Prior to Google and halfway through my Junior year, I took a leave of absence from UCLA to help launch a start-up company. The experience of leaving school before my friends inspired me to start this website to help recent graduates navigate their lives after college, and my ups, downs and (multiple!) quarterlife crises continue to inspire me to create content and courses that help people feel less alone as they nagivate these major life changes.
About Emily
Hey ya’ll! My name is Emily Smith and I hail from the great state of Wisconsin (Midwestern girl at heart, baby!!), went to school at the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis, and now currently spend my days teaching pre-kindergartener’s with Teach For America in Dallas, Texas!
During my undergraduate degree, I studied human resources, business, and leadership. I’ve had experience as an online teaching assistant for a personal leadership course, interned as a training coordinator for a student employment leadership program, participated and facilitated several leadership development programs, and even spent some time in South Africa and the US Virgin Islands (as a student) building relationships and exploring what the world has to offer.
All of these mentioned experiences grew my interest for building community and helping people become more effective and/or educated in their workplaces and lives (thus my passion for learning & development began). One of my core values is helping people and I believe I can best do that by inspiring, encouraging, supporting, and helping them kick butt through their personal and/or professional passions.
I got to know Jenny through an informational interview (where I learned more training & development experience) and before I knew it was involved with facilitating her Make Sh*t Happen course and creating Design Your Life! I love helping amazing people from around the world through this work and I find myself so energized and inspired by watching people accomplish their wildest goals and dreams!
